Last orders at Simpson’s fish & chip bar

Simpson's Fish & Chips, Bradley Stoke, Bristol.

The Simpson’s fish & chip shop at the Willow Brook Centre in Bradley Stoke is to close tomorrow (Saturday 26th May) after nearly two years of trading.

Simpson’s is a family-run fish & chip business, with one other outlet in Cheltenham. A decision has been made by the family to run a solo operation.

Scott Lahive, Centre Manager for the Willow Brook Centre, said:

“We’re very sorry to see Simpson’s go and wish them continued success at their shop in Cheltenham. We’re in the fortunate position that we do have food operators keen to open at the centre, and should be able to confirm a new tenant very soon.”

Simpson’s opened at the Willow Brook Centre on Sunday 18th July 2010. At the time of the opening, the chain also operated a third shop, in Chepstow, but that business was recently sold, according to an announcement on the company’s Facebook page:

“Due to family members retiring we have regret to announce we sold our Chepstow shop. The new owners have a passion for fish and chips and we are confident they will give their all to the shop as we have.”

Bradley Stoke’s other fish & chip shop, at Ferndene (near Aldi), now trades under the name ‘Bradley Stoke British Takeaway’ after being sold by the previous operator Deep Blue.

  1. only went there once and found the portions very small and expensive, best chippie is the one in Winterbourne, Fairbanks

  2. Not surprised. Like others have said, small portions and well overpriced. My preferred choice of local chippy is Baines Fryer in Little Stoke.

  3. Pity, a nice shop with a good range. Never had an issue with portion sizes and always thought they were good value. Good news for the one near Aldi I guess though.

  4. Ita a shame there closing, but I do agree, portions were small and the price was way to high. Definitely my preferred choice is Baynes Fryer.

  5. On the Simpson’s Facebook page today:

“It is with deep regret that we have had to make the difficult decision to close our Bradley Stoke shop today. We’d like to thank all our loyal customers for returning week after week, and of course our hard working staff who we wish all the best for the future. Unfortunately we just couldn’t make ends meet. We will put all our efforts into our Cheltenham shop now and strive to keep it as successful as it is. Many thanks, the Simpsons family.”

  6. Interesting comments from them – “couldn’t make ends meet”….I think it’s a shame that they are going, as the food was nice – but like others I also found the price too high for the size of the portions served.

I wonder what will replace it? Surely all of the major “chains” – except a BK or McDonald’s – are catered for….

Imagine if it’s a McDonalds, right next to a pound land….Richard will need to lie down in a darkened room for a month lol!!

  7. Agree prices high but food was good and never had a problem with the portions.

You never know, Richard may be pleasantly surprised it might be a Sushi Bar next?

  8. I always went there because it was right on my doorstep, it was too expensive and the portions were small, i forgot about the one by aldi, but i am more than happy to make the journey up there because they are very genious with their portions, £1.65 for a ”small” bag of chips, it FILLS to of my dessert bowls, which are quite big! Go to one by aldi, better than baines:)
