Aftershave clue to sexual assault in Bradley Stoke

Paco Rabanne 1 Million eau de toilette.

Detectives believe the distinctive smell of a men’s aftershave could be an important clue in their hunt for a sex attacker in Bradley Stoke.

They say they want to hear from anyone in the Bradley Stoke area who knows a man who wears Paco Rabanne 1 Million – the perfume the attacker’s victim, a 22-year-old woman, has identified.

Detective Inspector Dom Graham, leading the investigation, said:

“This was a particularly nasty and unprovoked stranger assault. I want the public’s help with any aspect of this enquiry, and my appeal today is – if you know anyone who wears this aftershave, call us on 101 or on Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Your information could lead us to this man and help solve this case.”

The new information comes on the eve of the one-week anniversary of the assault, which took place at approximately 11.45pm on Saturday 6th June.

Police have been carrying out extra patrols in the area, a path called Concorde Way that runs beneath Bradley Stoke Way. Signs appealing for information have been  put on fences and lampposts, and officers have carried out house-to-house calls and have spoken to people who use the route.

There will be an increased police presence in the area on Saturday as officers step up their appeal for witnesses and information, and seek to reassure the public.

Detective Inspector Graham added:

“Bradley Stoke is a safe place to live, but in the light of this assault our advice is for people to be vigilant, be careful and to keep yourself safe.”

[Editor’s note] Revised description in full:

“The attacker is described as white, possibly in his mid-30s, about 6ft 1ins tall, well-built with broad shoulders. He was wearing a grey hooded top with a central zip. The hood had white strings that were frayed at the ends. His shoes were dark, with laces and high-cut up to the ankles, with thick soles of a different shade. He smelt like Paco Rabanne 1 Million.”

This is a belated April Fool’s joke, right?

How about “they want to hear from anyone in the Bradley Stoke area who knows a man who shops at Tesco”?

    Barmy.
