A suspected arson attack in the Beacon Play Area on Bradley Stoke’s Jubilee Green last night (Thursday 6th May 2021) has caused damage with an estimated repair cost of almost £3,000.

A source at Bradley Stoke Town Council (BSTC), which manages the park, said site staff became aware of a fire at approximately 9.20 pm and the fire brigade was immediately called.

The fire brigade attended the site and quickly extinguished the fire.

The council source added:

“Damage has been identified on the cradle swing, the wet-pour safety surface underneath, and a litter bin situated by the youth shelter. This morning, staff taped off the area. The council is also in the process of removing the damaged equipment. Replacements will be on order. An estimated value of the damage is nearly £3,000.”

BSTC press spokesperson Cllr Tom Aditya said:

“Bradley Stoke Town Council works for the well-being of the community and to promote and develop the interests and diversity of this vibrant town. All our council amenities and facilities are for the good use of the community. Hence, this sort of reckless anti-social behaviour and criminal damage by a few immature people is wholly unacceptable and cannot be tolerated.”

“In order to avert such future incidents and to put out a robust message, most of the councillors and the council staff are minded to support formal action against the people involved in this incident and to charge the people involved liable for the financial damages and save the responsible tax-payers.”

“The councillors feel that the police should be given the space to resolve the matter professionally. The town council will take a decision, keeping the best interests of the community in mind.”

“I would like to thank the council staff, the firefighters and the police officers for taking up the right steps in this incident.”
