A Bradley Stoke runner is hoping to raise £1300 for a theatre charity by taking part in the Flora London Marathon this Sunday (26th April).

Owen Wood (19) of Kemperley Way signed up just three months ago to represent the Chickenshed charity in the famous race.

He has so far raised just short of £1200, mostly from colleagues at Canada Life in Bristol, but also via street collections, including £62 raised at Bradley Stoke’s  Willow Brook Centre in February.

Owen attended St Mary’s Primary School before moving to St Bedes’s Catholic College and worked for a while as a delivery rider for Pizza Hut in Bradley Stoke.

Playing rugby for Bristol Saracens RFC keeps Owen fit, but he says he has been suffering from shin splits brought on by the extra training he has been doing. Swimming and cycling have also been part of his build up to the big race.

This will be Owen’s first marathon and he is hoping to complete in a time of 4h:30m.

Anyone wishing to support Owen can contact him via The Journal or donate directly to Chickenshed via the ‘Support Us‘ page on the charitable trust’s website.

You can use our comments facility to leave your message of support or tell us about other local runners taking part in Sunday’s race.
