Drivers using the M5 near Bradley Stoke are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys as bridge refurbishment works enter their next phase from Monday 2nd October 2023. A week of overnight full closures of the M5, between junctions 14 and 17, is planned to allow the installation of a contraflow system.

Motorists are being warned to expect months of contraflow on the M5 motorway near Bradley Stoke in connection with bridge repair works being carried out by National Highways. The work is planned to commence with a month of overnight road closures from Monday 31st July 2023. Contraflow traffic management will be introduced from October 2023 and last until “summer 2024”.

The Highways Agency has announced that the M5 motorway will be closed in both directions between junctions 17 (Cribbs Causeway) and 18 (Avonmouth) on Christmas Day. The closure is necessary to allow contractors to demolish Lawrence Weston Bridge, which will be replaced by a new structure in the new year. Diversions via the M4 and M49 will be operation. Read
