A nursery worker from Bradley Stoke has celebrated ten years of service at the same setting she attended herself as a child.

Bethan Jones is an Early Years educator at the Mama Bear’s Day Nursery and Pre-School at Baileys Court, Bradley Stoke where previously she attended as a pre-schooler.

Having celebrated her tenth anniversary with the family-run nursery group in its under-threes room, Bethan said she is now “part of the furniture”!

Bethan said:

“Whilst studying for my A-levels at school, I helped out at the nursery as bank staff and thoroughly enjoyed it, so naturally I wanted to pursue a childcare career.”

“When I was given the opportunity to work within the nursery as a full-time member of staff, I jumped at the chance and have since gained a Level 3 childcare diploma.

“In the past ten years I have cared for a great number of children, watching them grow and move on to school and new adventures. I really enjoy my job and can’t see myself doing anything else. Watching the children grow and develop into confident individuals is so rewarding.”

“I have such fond memories of coming here myself, along with my siblings, so it is great to now help build memories for more children coming here.”

The under-threes unit in which Bethan works provides a home-from-home environment for the children who attend the setting.

Gold standard in paediatric first aid for Bradley Stoke nursery

Posted on Friday 11th January 2019 at 7:26 pm by SH (Editor)

A Bradley Stoke nursery is celebrating success in achieving Millie’s Mark accreditation, a special endorsement to childcare providers who go above and beyond the minimum requirements by having 100 percent of staff trained in paediatric first aid.

In line with the objective of the scheme, all staff at Mama Bear’s Baileys Court day nursery are now fully trained, with newly increased awareness of how to deal with potential health issues in babies and young children.

Millie’s Mark is named after Millie Thompson, who died after choking on food at nursery in 2012 when she was just nine months old. Her parents, Dan and Joanne Thompson, are behind the successful campaign for changes to first aid requirements for childcare providers.

The scheme is delivered by the National Day Nurseries Association and supported by the Department for Education.

Nursery manager Emma Tolley said:

“Being Millie’s Mark-accredited increases our ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergencies, raising the quality and skills of the whole team and ensuring we deal competently with day-to-day first aid issues, such as allergies.

“It also provides enhanced reassurance to parents, because the nature of this scheme is that there will be continual assessment to keep our accreditation current.”

It took the team four months to complete the training, which included internal mentoring and on-the-spot training scenarios.

‘Outstanding’ verdict for local pre-school

Posted on Wednesday 29th November 2017 at 10:05 pm by SH (Editor)

Photo of staff and children celebrating their recent 'outstanding' verdict from Ofsted.

A Bradley Stoke pre-school has been awarded the highest possible grade of ‘outstanding’ following a recent Ofsted inspection.

The Mama Bear’s Pre-School at Baileys Court (located behind the Tesco Express store) impressed inspectors from the standards agency and received top rankings in all four judged categories.

The Bradley Stoke setting was the second within the family-run group to achieve the highest Ofsted grade within the space of seven days, following in the footsteps of Mama Bear’s Day Nursery and Pre-School on Wells Road, Hengrove.

Receiving praise for the effectiveness of leadership and management; quality of teaching, learning and assessment; personal development, behaviour and welfare and outcomes for children; the settings are now celebrating their achievements.

There are 15 Mama Bear’s Day Nurseries across Bristol, providing early education and high quality care to children aged three months to five years.
Mama Bear’s owner Bev Driffield, who runs the group with husband Tony Driffield, said: “It is a fantastic achievement to have two of our nurseries awarded ‘outstanding’ gradings at the same time and goes to show how our commitment to care pays off across our settings.”

“It is a credit to our staff to achieve such positive comments from the inspectors and I’m extremely proud of them for continuing to provide the best care and for always looking to improve on what we do.”

“The inspector who assessed our Bradley Stoke Pre-School noted that our staff know the children, who are all highly motivated, extremely well and provide inspiring learning experiences as well as high behavioural expectations.”

Almondsbury Youth FC Under-8s celebrate new sponsorship from Mama Bear’s

Posted on Wednesday 1st July 2015 at 2:51 pm by SH (Editor)

A new junior football team in north Bristol is celebrating after securing its first sponsorship from local business Mama Bear’s Day Nursery and Pre-School.

The Almondsbury Youth FC Under-8s team was set up in September by local man Stuart Lawrence and has grown to 36 players since the first training session was launched.

Sponsorship from Mama Bear’s, which has local nurseries in Bradley Stoke as well as across Greater Bristol, means the team will receive all new equipment including much-needed pop-up goal posts.

Stuart, an FA Level 2 coach, is also supported by wife Amanda and three additional coaches James Thomas, Jake Lawrence and Adam Timothy. He said:

“The response to the team has been phenomenal so far and now having professional sponsorship will give us even more credence and room to grow.”

“At the first training session we didn’t know whether anyone would even turn up but we were inundated and had 21 children taking part. That number has since grown to almost 40 and we’re still getting interest which goes to show how much a community team like this was needed in the area.”

“Having Mama Bear’s support and sponsorship means we can continue towards growing the team and making it as fun as possible for the children while developing their football and teamwork skills.”

“We will be having the Mama Bear’s logo added to the kit as well as hoodies and jackets for the coaches and we’ll also be investing in some new pop-up goals which will be a great help.”

“I have personal knowledge of Mama Bear’s as my daughter attends the nursery at Bailey’s Court in Bradley Stoke and loves it. We’d like to say a huge thank you to the business for supporting us; it really means a lot.”
