Members of Bradley Stoke Gymnastics Club put in some fine performances at the South West Prelims competition held at Yate International Gymnastics Centre on Saturday 17th March.

A team of 16 Bradley Stoke gymnasts (making up seven partnerships), five of them competing for the first time, made the short trip to Yate, where they joined around 200 other competitors from across the south west.

The competition format requires each partnership to perform a two-minute routine consisting of five team moves and three individual moves. Routines are judged for tidiness, sparkle, performance and artistry.

The club’s trio of Sophie Dean, Grace Blumire and Charlie Osborne delighted their coaches by coming away with bronze medals. Reflecting on her experience, Charlie said:

“I enjoyed the competition, however it was hard as there were some quite good trios in our group. The best part of the competition was collecting my first medal, and I really liked watching other people competing.”

Rachael Moore, club coach, said:

“All of the gymnasts performed excellent routines, making us very, very proud. To have so many of our ‘new ones’ compete for the first time and shine like stars put smiles on our faces. We couldn’t be prouder of all the girls, and that’s what makes us a real ‘gym family’”.

BSYFC U10 Girls put up good show in biggest game of season

BSYFC's Kayleigh Jennings in action against Westbury Foxes.

On Sunday morning there was some excellent football on show at St Ursula’s Academy where league leaders Bradley Stoke Youth FC’s Under-10 Girls took on a third place Westbury Foxes side in a game to secure second place in the Bristol Girls’ League.

The game started really brightly with both teams having a chance to attack. Kayleigh Jennings coming close for the visitors whilst at the other end, Lydia Tang in the Bradley Stoke goalmouth made some outstanding saves to keep her team in the game. Eventually, however, the first goal of the game went to Westbury, a huge throw in from one of their midfield players volleyed in spectacularly past a strong Lydia Tang in the goalmouth by Simran Kaur.

The lead was maintained up to half time and Bradley Stoke went into the break a goal down.

This was how it stayed for the remainder of the game, although during the second half Bradley Stoke were playing the better football and had several chances from Kayleigh Jennings, Daisy Ackerman and Aimee Jones, but the home keeper kept strong and the game ended 1-0.

After this game, Westbury Foxes have the advantage to claim second place, however it is still possible for Bradley Stoke Under-10 girls to claim the runners-up spot.
