SGDFAS Lecture: Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey)

A lecture on Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey), organised by the South Gloucestershire Decorative and Fine Arts Society. Matthew Williams, curator of Cardiff Castle, will talk about the wide ranging history of this magnificent family home and its occupants. From an Iron Age fort to the home of the Carnarvon family, used as a hospital in the First World War, the involvement of the 5th Earl of Carnarvon in the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb and its present day appearance as the star of Downton Abbey. BSTC Planning Committee Meeting

The committee meets once a month and makes recommendations on all planning applications within Bradley Stoke to the planning authority (South Gloucestershire Council) and considers all associated planning, footpath and licensing issues. This committee also considers matters relating to the local environment in general, including litter, grass verges, pavements, roads and other similar matters. The committee acts as a vehicle to consider, discuss and recommend solutions to health & safety issues affecting Bradley Stoke Town Council. The press and public are welcome to attend.
