The 2021 Bradley Stoke Scarecrow Trail held over the school summer holidays was a resounding success with hundreds of local families taking on the challenge of visiting all 29 figures. This was the second year for this community event, with the theme of the scarecrows this time being characters from children’s books, films or nursery rhymes.

The Thursday Green Gym group continues to grow. The volunteers’ recent tasks have included making a figure (Little Miss Muffet) for Bradley Stoke’s summer scarecrow trail and constructing an insect hotel at the Braydon Gate entrance to the nature reserve (at the southern end of Brook Way).

Bradley Stoke Town Council has agreed to part fund the purchase of two electric bikes for use by the town’s neighbourhood police team. A £2,658 Grant Aid payment was agreed despite some councillors’ reservations over residents being “taxed twice” (having already paid the police precept that is added to council tax bills).

Students at Bradley Stoke Community School have overcome the numerous challenges thrown up by the coronavirus pandemic to register another “strong set” of GCSE results, which are said to be “broadly in line” with previous years’ outcomes for attainment and progress.

A blockage in a sewer pipe is thought to have led to a pollution incident that has had devastating consequences for aquatic wildlife in Bradley Stoke’s Three Brooks Lake. Following sightings of fish struggling to breathe and dying on Friday 27th August, the Environment Agency was immediately alerted via its pollution incident hotline.

Bradley Stoke Community School is celebrating some outstanding achievements by its students in their A-levels and vocational qualification assessments this summer. Students have secured places at top Russell Group universities, with three heading for Oxbridge. Others will be soon be starting apprenticeships with prestigious local employers.

Students from a local dance school have finally managed to stage the annual show they had planned for 2020 after it was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic. The ‘All the World’s a Stage’ show by Sharon Phillips School of Dancing was originally scheduled to take place in April 2020.

Local bus operator First West of England has announced a number of adjustments to its services with effect from Sunday 29th August 2021. Sunday and public holiday frequency on the T1 service will be reduced from ‘every 30 minutes’ to ‘every 60 minutes’. There are also changes affecting services 12, 18, 19, 73, 963, M1 and T1s.
