New bus service to restore daytime link between Brook Way and Parkway Station

New no. 83 bus service between Kingswood and Thornbury via Bradley Stoke.

A new bus service being introduced by First on 3rd November will restore the daytime link between the southern section of Brook Way and Bristol Parkway Station, which was lost when the 73 and 74 routes were merged in August 2013.

This new 83 service will provide journey opportunities between Thornbury and Kingswood, while also serving Almondsbury, Bradley Stoke, Parkway, UWE (Frenchay Campus), Fishponds and Hillfields. Buses will run hourly Monday to Saturday daytimes.

From the Aztec West Roundabout, buses will travel down Bradley Stoke Way to the Patchway Brook Roundabout (near Aldi), before traversing the full length of Brook Way, and on to Parkway via Orpheus Avenue and Hatchet Road.

Timetables for the new service will be available soon on the First Bristol and Bath website (but are already available on the Traveline South West website). Hard copy timetables should be available from the First travel shop in Bristol from 31st October.

In other bus service news, Bradley Stoke town councillor Tom Aditya is calling for a new direct bus service to be introduced between Bradley Stoke, Southmead Hospital, the city centre hospitals and Bristol Temple Meads Station.

In a letter published on The Journal website, Cllr Aditya says he believes there is a demand for such a service due to the many Bradley Stoke residents who work at the hospitals or need to visit them regularly for treatment.

Cllr Aditya has arranged for South Gloucestershire Council’s Transport Operations Manager Roy Steele to attend a meeting of Bradley Stoke Town Council’s Planning & Environment Committee on Wednesday (22nd October), where the matter will be discussed.  Members of the public who support the introduction of such a service are encouraged to attend the meeting where they will be able to air their views and ask questions during the ‘submissions from the public’ session.

The meeting takes place at the Jubilee Centre, starting at 7pm.

  1. Why couldn’t they extend the hours of this bus route slightly, so workers wishing to commute to and from Aztec West could make use of the service? First bus of the day would make the average worker two minutes late (arrives at aztec west at 9:02), if the bus was on time, and would require them to finish the working day ten minutes before five. Absolutely ridiculous! My partner will not travel using the other bus service as it does the ludicrous loop around tesco which adds an extra 10-15 mins on his journey. This route would be perfect for many wishing a straight forward commute to work! He’ll continue to drive or cycle to work everyday, as the other route is not feasible, what a shame, as I’m sure this service could also benefit a lot of others also in a similar situation, and take at least a few cars out of the rush hour madness.
