A cyclist from Bradley Stoke is hoping that his share of victory in the recent Bristol Grand Prix will inspire other people to get back in the saddle.

Malcolm Dixon, 31, who works at Arriva Transport Solutions (ATSL), was part of the Dream Cycling team which stormed to gold in the prestigious race through Bristol city centre on Saturday 20th June.

He said: “It was a fantastic feeling to be sipping champagne with my teammates at the finishing line.”

“To win a high profile race like this in front of a big crowd was an absolutely brilliant experience and we’re all delighted.”

ATSL, which operates the non-emergency ambulance service in the south west, encourages its staff to lead a healthy lifestyle and hopes Malcolm will prove to be an inspiration.

As well as championing the Cycle to Work scheme, Malcolm also gives advice and support to his colleagues in Bristol and shares his knowledge on the area’s best cycle routes.

He said: “Once you have caught the cycling bug, you won’t look back.”

“I started cycling when I lived in London and friends told me that the best way to get around was on a bike. So I borrowed my girlfriend’s bike and that was it – I was hooked.”

“I’ve now been cycling for six years and I love it. I would encourage anyone to get back on a bike and give it a go.”

The winning Dream Cycling team also included Steve Thomas, Gerry Bowditch, Craig Wallduck, Tom Ilett, Matt Witts and former Bradley Stoke resident James Phillips, who had the honour of leading the team across the finishing line.

ATSL director Marjorie Haynes said: “I would like to congratulate Malcolm on his wonderful victory.”

“He is passionate about cycling and I’m so proud that we have people like Malcolm at ATSL. While we won’t all get to Malcolm’s level or win gold medals, we can all enjoy the health benefits that cycling brings.”
