Students from a local dance school are looking forward to living out their dreams by performing on a famous West End stage next month.
A group of 36 performers from the Sharon Phillips School of Dancing, around half of whom live in Bradley Stoke, will be treading the boards of Her Majesty’s Theatre on Sunday 20th September when they take part in a Young Performers Show.
The two dances they will perform are a classical ballet, with ‘the seasons’ as the theme, and a hoedown, combining modern/jazz dancing with line dancing. For the classical piece, the girls will be wearing tutus (imported from America) that reflect summer, winter and autumn, while the hoedown costumes are being specially designed and made for each performer.
Dance school owner Sharon Phillips said:
“We have taken groups before to Young Performers and have always had an amazing and positive experience. Giving the girls the opportunity to dance at Her Majesty’s Theatre, using the dressing rooms of the actors and working with their production team is just so inspiring for them.”
The school runs classes at St Chad’s Church Hall in Patchway on Saturdays from 9am-1pm. Further classes are held in Alveston on weekday afternoons & evenings and Saturdays.
Dance styles taught at the school include tap, modern and ballet. All teachers are registered with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) and are DBS checked.
Classes currently cater for children aged two-and-a-half years upwards, but from September the school is starting new toddler ballet classes for children aged 18-months to two-and-a-half years.
