Overnight closures of Bradley Stoke Way planned for every night this week (Mon-Fri)

A road roller stands ready on Bradley Stoke Way.

MetroBus contractors Alun Griffiths say they plan to make the best of the current fair weather and continue with overnight closures of a section of Bradley Stoke Way for a further five nights this week, commencing tonight (Monday 23rd January).

Griffiths’ community liaison officer Jim Aitken said:

“We are carrying on the night work this week to make best progress and avoid the congestion that daytime work would involve. We fully appreciate that this has an impact on immediate residents whilst this continues and apologise for this and thank residents for their tolerance and patience. This may mean that day time resources are less on surfacing as we focus our resources on night time work. We will continue to have a daytime presence with the signalisation and some drainage work ongoing.”

A report that appeared on the Griffiths community webpage for the Bradley Stoke zone of the MetroBus construction project last Friday states:

“Good progress has been made with night time surfacing during this week. Further night work is required next week as the weather forecast looks favourable to continue. Bradley Stoke Way will be closed for surfacing westbound only between Patchway Brook Roundabout (near Aldi) and the Aztec West Roundabout from Monday 23rd January for five nights between 8pm and 5am. Diversion signs are in place to divert traffic through Stoke Gifford for access to the Aztec West Roundabout during these times only.”

“Weather permitting, we hope following the end of the above work to have laid the surface course and lay the white lines down.”

“Eastbound from Aztec West to Patchway brook will continue to be open and we shall maintain access to residents of Orchard Gate.”

“The noisier surface planning where needed will take place at the beginning of the week and early in each shift. This is not weather dependant.”

“We will now not need to close the Patchway Brook Roundabout for this weekend as intended as subsurface testing has indicated more extensive groundwork is not necessary, however we shall require a closure at some point in time to complete the surfacing immediately east of Patchway Brook towards Tesco. This shall be advised in due course.”

  1. As a resident overlooking Bradley Stoke Way – I hope this time Griffiths will stick to their word in their letter advising us that the noisiest part will be completed by 11pm not 1am as it ended up being…..
