Mama Bear’s Beth celebrates ten years service at childhood nursery in Bradley Stoke

A nursery worker from Bradley Stoke has celebrated ten years of service at the same setting she attended herself as a child.

Bethan Jones is an Early Years educator at the Mama Bear’s Day Nursery and Pre-School at Baileys Court, Bradley Stoke where previously she attended as a pre-schooler.

Having celebrated her tenth anniversary with the family-run nursery group in its under-threes room, Bethan said she is now “part of the furniture”!

Bethan said:

“Whilst studying for my A-levels at school, I helped out at the nursery as bank staff and thoroughly enjoyed it, so naturally I wanted to pursue a childcare career.”

“When I was given the opportunity to work within the nursery as a full-time member of staff, I jumped at the chance and have since gained a Level 3 childcare diploma.

“In the past ten years I have cared for a great number of children, watching them grow and move on to school and new adventures. I really enjoy my job and can’t see myself doing anything else. Watching the children grow and develop into confident individuals is so rewarding.”

“I have such fond memories of coming here myself, along with my siblings, so it is great to now help build memories for more children coming here.”

The under-threes unit in which Bethan works provides a home-from-home environment for the children who attend the setting.

Gold standard in paediatric first aid for Bradley Stoke nursery

Posted on Friday 11th January 2019 at 7:26 pm by SH (Editor)

A Bradley Stoke nursery is celebrating success in achieving Millie’s Mark accreditation, a special endorsement to childcare providers who go above and beyond the minimum requirements by having 100 percent of staff trained in paediatric first aid.

In line with the objective of the scheme, all staff at Mama Bear’s Baileys Court day nursery are now fully trained, with newly increased awareness of how to deal with potential health issues in babies and young children.

Millie’s Mark is named after Millie Thompson, who died after choking on food at nursery in 2012 when she was just nine months old. Her parents, Dan and Joanne Thompson, are behind the successful campaign for changes to first aid requirements for childcare providers.

The scheme is delivered by the National Day Nurseries Association and supported by the Department for Education.

Nursery manager Emma Tolley said:

“Being Millie’s Mark-accredited increases our ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergencies, raising the quality and skills of the whole team and ensuring we deal competently with day-to-day first aid issues, such as allergies.

“It also provides enhanced reassurance to parents, because the nature of this scheme is that there will be continual assessment to keep our accreditation current.”

It took the team four months to complete the training, which included internal mentoring and on-the-spot training scenarios.

Mama Bear’s takes over at The Covey Nursery

Posted on Tuesday 17th February 2015 at 12:01 am by SH (Editor)

The Covey Nursery at Baileys Court, Bradley Stoke.

The Bristol-based nursery group which acquired the former Butterflies Day Nursery site on Great Park Road last year has taken on another nursery in the area, creating sustainable childcare places and more employment opportunities for the Bradley Stoke community.

Mama Bear’s Day Nursery group took over the running of The Covey Nursery in Baileys Court from Monday 19th January, following the retirement of the previous owners.

Interest in both nurseries is already high and Mama Bear’s says it is looking for more staff to add to the teams already in place.

Mama Bear’s owner Bev Driffield said:

“We are delighted to have another nursery in Bradley Stoke and we look forward to offering even more quality childcare to local families. Our offer of free registration until June has attracted lots of new families, so we are looking to expand the teams we have in place. Opportunities are available for Level-3 qualified childcare practitioners and apprentices.”

“We always aim to create a home-from-home environment and we put a massive focus on the quality of care we provide, as well as training for our staff, so it’s a great opportunity for anyone in the industry or those looking to get into the industry.”

Plans are in place for redevelopment at both Bradley Stoke nurseries in early 2015.

New club’s successful Open Day to be followed by Easter ‘Owl’ Hunt

Posted on Thursday 17th April 2014 at 7:55 pm by SH (Editor)

Open Day at the Bradley Stoke Wise Owls Club.

An ‘owltastic’ time was had by all at the Bradley Stoke Wise Owls Club Open Day on Saturday 29th March.

Children enjoyed arts and craft activities, including making Mother’s Day gifts and cards. Parents were able to tour the fantastic facilities and meet the team at Bradley Stoke Wise Owls Club. They finished the afternoon with an owls and birds of prey display provided by Owl Occasions.

The club’s next event will be an Easter ‘Owl’ Hunt at the Jubilee Green Park on Monday 21st April from 11am -12 noon (weather permitting). Children and parents are welcome to attend and staff from the club will be there to answer any questions and join in the fun!

Bradley Stoke Wise Owls Club is a new after school and holiday club that opens soon at the Jubilee Centre. Rather than just providing child care for parents who work, a wide range of activities will be on offer for the children to take part in. There is an educational aspect to the club too, where children will receive half an hour group tuition in Maths and English from a qualified teacher.
