"Store closed" notice on the door of Peacocks, Bradley Stoke

The Peacocks store at Bradley Stoke’s Willow Brook Centre has ceased trading today with the loss of 16 jobs.

The troubled fashion group went into administration on 18th January after failing to restructure debits of £240m.

Peacocks stores around the country had continued to trade since then whilst administrators at KPMG sought a buyer.

A press release put out by KPMG this afternoon revealed that the Peacocks brand and 388 of its stores had been acquired by Edinburgh Woollen Mill, adding:

“Unfortunately the remaining 224 stores were not included in the sale and have ceased trading with immediate effect, resulting in 3,100 redundancies.”

The Journal has been told that the Peacocks store in Yate will also close, with the loss of 14 jobs, but the Emersons Green branch will continue to trade.

The Peacocks store at the Willow Brook Centre first opened on 3rd June 2010.

Jobs under threat as Peacocks goes into administration

Posted on Thursday 19th January 2012 at 12:59 pm by SH (Editor)

Peacocks store, Bradley Stoke, Bristol

Jobs could be lost at the Bradley Stoke branch of Peacocks after the national retailer confirmed it had entered administration after failing to secure its debts.

A spokesperson for administrators KPMG has told the BBC that there will “inevitably” be redundancies and store closures across the group.

The company’s Chief Executive Richard Kirk said:

“This is a hugely sad development for all of our stakeholders, especially our employees who have shown total commitment to the business over an uncertain and difficult period.”

The Peacocks store at the Willow Brook Centre opened on 3rd June 2010 and it is believed that around 15 people are employed there.

Staff at the store said on Tuesday that they had been instructed not to talk to the media.

Job fears as RAC taken over by private equity firm

Posted on Thursday 23rd June 2011 at 10:07 pm by SH (Editor)

RAC Motoring Services, Bradley Stoke, Bristol

Workers at RAC Motoring Services in Great Park Road, Bradley Stoke, heard today that the company has been sold to US private equity firm Carlyle Group for £1 billion.

Current owner Aviva, which bought the RAC for £1.1 billion in 2005, said in a press release that the sale supported the company’s strategy to focus on insurance and savings businesses in its priority markets.

A report on The Guardian website says the company refused to comment on job losses, although sources close to the firm said the takeover would not lead to redundancies.

The Unite union said Carlyle had given assurances that the sale of RAC would ensure “the workforce is protected, terms and conditions will be maintained and, crucially, all the pensions arrangements will be preserved”.

The paper recalls Permira’s acquisition of the AA in 2004, which was heavily criticised by unions for loading the company with debt, leading to 3,400 job losses.
