Local school needs your vote in finals of wildlife gardening competition!

A Bradley Stoke school has made it through to the finals of Avon Wildlife Trust’s 2023 Wildlife Gardening Competition and is asking members of the local community to vote for it. Wheatfield Primary School has been recognised regionally for its wildlife-friendly approach in managing its school grounds and it is now showcasing simple wildlife projects that can make an impact on our local environment.

Local author to celebrate publication of new children’s book

Bradley Stoke author Freddie Hillberg will be celebrating the publication of his new children’s picture book, ‘Brave Cat Millie’ on Thursday 26th October. Aimed at children aged 4 to 7, the new hard-back book is, according to its publisher Carraway, an endearing, gentle and touching story accompanied by delicate and beautifully drawn illustrations that will be popular with younger readers and also with parents and grandparents.

Golfers swing into action to raise funds for Bristol loneliness charity

A loneliness charity has received a £16,000 boost from Bradley Stoke based housebuilder Wain Homes following the company’s annual charity golf day. Marmalade Trust on Grosvenor Road in St Pauls, Bristol, is the only charity in the world dedicated to raising awareness of loneliness and is Wain Homes Severn Valley’s chosen charity for 2023. A total of 31 teams from the construction industry took part in the event.

Decision on Bradley Stoke Way apartment blocks “unlikely until spring 2024”

A decision on a controversial planning application for the construction of two 4-storey apartment blocks on Bradley Stoke Way is unlikely to be made until next spring, the Journal can reveal. The application has so far attracted 51 comments of objection, with none in support. Included in the list of objectors are Bradley Stoke Town Council and one of the two ward councillors for Bradley Stoke South.

Over £2,800 spent on repairs and security enhancements following Baileys Court vandalism

A spate of vandalism at Baileys Court Activity Centre has resulted in the town council spending over £2,800 on repairs and additional security measures. An attempt was made to enter the building via a roof hatch and a large number of roof tiles have been damaged, along with a CCTV camera. Police have issued images of three “teens” they believe may be able to help with enquiries.

Anti-social behaviour back to “normal” levels after ring leaders cautioned

Police say anti-social behaviour (ASB) by youths at the Willow Brook Centre and elsewhere in the Stokes has returned to “normal” levels after two ring leaders were issued with behaviour contracts. Responding to concerns about youths “wearing ski masks and balaclavas”, a local PCSO explained that police are no longer able to stop and search them, but must instead “wait for them to commit a crime”.
