A loneliness charity has received a £16,000 boost from Bradley Stoke based housebuilder Wain Homes following the company’s annual charity golf day.

Marmalade Trust on Grosvenor Road in St Pauls, Bristol, is the only charity in the world dedicated to raising awareness of loneliness and is Wain Homes Severn Valley’s chosen charity for 2023.

The company, which has its headquarters in Almondsbury Business Park, held its golf day at The Players Golf Club in Codrington with 31 teams from the construction industry, including 16 Wain Homes employees, taking part. The winning team on the day came from Omega Kitchens.

Carl Haley, managing director of Wain Homes Severn Valley, said:

“The Marmalade Trust is a charity chosen by our team to support with fundraising activities this year as loneliness is a human emotion often overlooked and its impact on people can be devastating.”

“Supporting people of all ages in our community is part of our role as a responsible builder and we are committed to backing Marmalade Trust’s mission to help people feel more connected.”

“Thank you to our sponsors, James Hargreaves, and all the companies which took part in the golf day. Their efforts will make a huge difference to the lives of many people in our community.”

Helen Ker-Bridges, volunteer coordinator at Marmalade Trust, said:

“We are so incredibly grateful for the amazing amount of money raised by the Wain Homes team and contractors at the Golf Day, they really smashed all expectations.”

“The money raised will go directly to ensure we can deliver our much needed projects. Our core local projects are Christmas Cheer – Christmas Day events for those who would be alone and Marmalade Companions – supporting people into new connections. We also continue to host the national Loneliness Awareness Week campaign in June.”

Wain Homes is currently building nine new developments across the Severn Valley region, including Mulgrove Farm Village on the north-eastern fringe of Stoke Gifford, which was named as Development of the Year at the Insider Residential Property Awards 2023.
