Bowsland Green’s Covid-19 ‘happiness snake’ finds a new home at Willow Brook

A stone ‘happiness snake’ created during the coronavirus lockdown along the side of a popular footpath in Bradley Stoke has found a permanent home at the town’s Willow Brook shopping centre. It can be found in a small garden area near the bus entrance off Bradley Stoke Way.

Bradley Stoke Library reopens for browsing

For the first time since March, members of the public are now able to drop into Bradley Stoke Library without an appointment and browse the books on offer. The number of people using the library at one time will be limited and IT users are encouraged to book in advance.

Trench Lane road closure extended by another month

An important route between Bradley Stoke and towns and villages to the north looks set to remain closed for another month after a bridge refurbishment project being carried out by Highways England encountered further unanticipated issues.

Rabbit Roundabout improvements: Completion date slips into October

Motorists in the Stokes are now able to see the benefits of a £2.9m scheme of improvements at Great Stoke (Rabbit) Roundabout after the final surfacing and road marking tasks were completed
in early September. The new toucan crossings are now expected to go live in October.

Man remanded in custody following Stanley Mead burglary

An 18-year-old man from Bristol has been remanded in custody after appearing in court charged with aggravated burglary following a break-in at a property in Stanley Mead, Bradley Stoke on Sunday 11th October.

The scarecrows are coming to town!

Bradley Stoke Town Council’s first-ever Scarecrow Trail has attracted around 30 entrants who will now go on to make a figure and display it over the autumn half-term holiday. Members of the public will be able to take part in the trail from 24th to 31st October.

Legal e-scooter trial expected to start soon

The West of England Combined Authority (Weca) is accelerating e-scooter trials to provide alternative ways to travel while social distancing is in place on public transport. Two types of hire schemes are expected to be available very soon: hop-on, hop-off hire (similar to YoBike) and longer term lease hire.

Woodland paths set for improvement

Further work to improve footpaths to provide year-round access in Bradley Stoke’s Three Brooks Local Nature Reserve is now under way. The project is an extension of the improvements made in Savages Wood last year, when more than 500m of paths were upgraded.

Roadworks in the Stokes: Plenty more to come!

Road users in the Stokes have had to contend with numerous sets of roadworks and road closures during September and it seems there will be no let-up in October, with work continuing at Bowsland Way, Trench Lane, Great Stoke (Rabbit) Roundabout, Hatchet Road, Westfield Lane and the M4 motorway.
