Trench Lane Car Boot Sale

Thrifty shoppers have their last final chance of the year to grab a bargain at the Trench Lane Car Boot Sale this Sunday (25th September 2011).

The immensely popular sale, which attracts hundreds of sellers and thousands of buyers, runs from May to September at the Trench Lane site [map], opposite the entrance to Woodlands Golf & Country Club.

With last week’s sale having to be cancelled due to poor weather, the final sale of 2011 looks set to attract a bumper crowd.

Organisers have told The Journal that they are confident the event will go ahead after several days of drying weather this week.

UPDATE (Sunday 9am): Sale is ON, despite some showers this morning.

The Trench Lane sale is expected to resume in May 2012, subject to the event’s licence being renewed by South Gloucestershire Council.

Car boot sale addicts unable to wait until next year have the option of attending other regular sales over the winter months at Bristol Wholesale Fruit Market (Saturdays) and Easter Compton (Sundays). More details of these and other car boot sales in the Bristol area can be found on the Markets page of our online Directory of Local Services in and around Bradley Stoke.

Trench Lane car boot sale to re-open on 1st May

Trench Lane Car Boot Sale, near Bradley Stoke

A popular car boot sale that takes place near Bradley Stoke is to re-open for the 2011 season at the beginning of May.

The Trench Lane Boot Sale, held on Sundays on a farmland site opposite the entrance to Woodlands Golf Club [map], will open for the first time this year on Sunday 1st May 2011.

Despite concerns about “heavy handed marshalling” at the boot sale being raised by police and Council officers prior to a licensing meeting in February,  an administrative blunder by South Gloucestershire Council meant that the sale had already had its licence renewed for 2011 before the meeting took place.

Speaking to The Journal, the organiser of the Trench Lane sale claimed that the issues raised in the Council’s report resulted from malicious complaints made by supporters of a rival boot sale.

He added that the sale’s 2011 licence allows ‘traders’ (as distinct from private individuals) to operate at the venue, a change from previous years.

Trench Lane Car Boot Sale

The popular Trench Lane car boot sale faces being refused a trading licence by South Gloucestershire Council (SGC) after local police objected on the grounds that the public might be subjected to “force, fear or harm [following] numerous public order complaints emanating from the site”.

The boot sale, which has taken place on the site opposite Woodlands Golf Club for over ten years (although it has only been officially licensed since 2003), runs every Sunday from early May to late September.

Trench Lane: Street Trading Consent

A report to be discussed by SGC’s Licensing Sub-Committee next Tuesday (15th February) states that, during the  2010 season, “numerous complaints were made to both the police and the Licensing Department in relation to the alleged heavy handedness of the marshalling team who conduct traffic direction within the parking area of the site.”

The report details five complaints of “threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour” by marshals during the 2010 season with two of the alleged incidents occurring in the presence of young children.
