A group committed to supporting families across Bristol and South Gloucestershire has received the backing of a leading housebuilder.

Mamas Bristol has secured £1,000 of funding from Persimmon Homes Severn Valley.

Across Britain, Persimmon donates up to £64,000 a month to fund initiatives through its Community Champions scheme.

Mamas Bristol CIC was founded in 2018 by Patchway resident Paige Josham. Fed up of trying to buy and sell baby and children’s clothes online, she decided that something had to change and Mamas Bristol, known then as Mama’s Swaps & Freebies Bristol, was born.

Four years later, Mamas Bristol is now an established brand within the local community, providing a Swaps and Freebies service, Community Aid for signposting, and most recently, a #MamasMealboxes initiative.

The organisation has established a hub in Bradley Stoke, which provides families with a safe, warm space with provision of hot drinks, food and emergency aid parcels when required. The venue also hosts regular ‘Stay and Play’ sessions for parents/carers and children.

Persimmon’s donation will help increase the number of events put on by the organisation to support local people.

Kelsey Booy, treasurer for Mamas Bristol, said

“On behalf of Mamas Bristol, I want to thank Persimmon for this incredible support.

“Across the winter and particularly in the run-up to Christmas, we wanted to open the hub more frequently to enable a safe, warm space with provision of hot drinks and emergency aid parcels when required.”

“We host regular ‘Stay and Plays’ so that isolated parents, carers and children can come for some engaging play and craft time, a warm drink and reduction of social isolation.”

“Persimmon’s generous donation will increase our ability to run more events and help more families in Bristol during this challenging period.”

Carly Spear, sales director for Persimmon Severn Valley, said

“Persimmon Severn Valley is thrilled to support such an outstanding cause in Bristol.”

“Christmas should be a joyous occasion for all, but it will come with a set of unique challenges this winter for many families facing the cost-of-living crisis.”

“Persimmon’s Community Champions initiative is all about supporting the communities and people in which we build, and this is another deserving recipient in Bristol.”

“Mamas Bristol is a fantastic organisation that supports young families, and goes above and beyond to ensure parents and children are looked after.”

“We hope our donation can go some way to supporting some parents and children this Christmas thanks to the great work by the team of volunteers at Mamas.”
