Bradley Stoke Community School has praised the “exceptional” performances of its students in the first set of external GCSE examinations since 2019. The proportion of students achieving both English and Maths at Grade 4 or above was 81 percent (compared to 82 percent in 2019).

Opposition members on Bradley Stoke Town Council have reacted angrily to some of the ruling Conservative group voting to restrict them to attending just one in three of the monthly councillor surgery sessions held on Saturday mornings at the Willow Brook Centre. The new system has been in effect since July following a close vote at June’s meeting of Full Council.

Students at Bradley Stoke Community School are celebrating the results of their Post-16 examinations following two years of disruption due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The school reports that over 31 percent of all grades achieved were A*- A and 58 percent were A*- B, which is “in line with the best ever results at the school”.

The first phase of work to install additional traffic calming measures on Stoke Lane will now commence on Monday 22nd August with a road closure lasting for two weeks, South Gloucestershire Council has announced. Further work, involving overnight road closures for resurfacing, will be carried out later in September.

Entrants in this year’s Bradley Stoke in Bloom ‘Best Front Garden’ competition were presented with prizes and certificates at a ceremony staged on Saturday 13th August as part of the Scarecrow Trail launch event. The competition, now in its tenth year, attracted 15 entrants across its two (large and small garden) categories.

Alive Activities, a local charity supporting older people, is pleased to announce the official opening of its newest Dementia Meeting Centre, at Bradley Stoke Evangelical Church. The meeting centre is the first to open in South Gloucestershire and the third one for Alive, following on from the success of its two other meeting centres in North Somerset and Bristol.

South Glos Council is running a public consultation on a proposed change to the number of town council wards in Bradley Stoke. In order to avoid the need for “long ballot papers” at elections and the potential for “expensive by-elections” (due to the large number of voters in each of the current wards), it is proposed to increase the number of town wards from three to five.

Police say they are carrying out extra patrols in Bradley Stoke after a woman reported that she’d been sexually assaulted while out walking in a local nature reserve. The incident took place in the Three Brooks Local Nature Reserve at around 8.30pm on Thursday 4th August 2022.

South Gloucestershire Council has postponed a planned four-week closure of Stoke Lane that was due to start today (Monday 8th August). The road closure, which was announced barely a week ago, on Thursday 28th July, is needed to install additional traffic calming measures that include a new speed table and two new sets of speed cushions.
